This song-based activity STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN for ENGLISH language TEACHING features the lyrics and music video for RAIN ON ME – LADY GAGA, ARIANA GRANDE. Students work in pairs to WRITE definitions for words from the song, WATCH an interview with Lady Gaga and answer a question, DO a listening exercise with the interview script, DO a crosswords exercise with words from the lyrics, LISTEN to the song, DO a listening exercise with the lyrics and WATCH the music video..
OBS: This lesson plan was made to be used for ONLINE TEACHING WITH ZOOM features like ZOOM WHITEBOARD, ZOOM SCREEN SHARE and ZOOM CHAT, but it can be modified for face-to-face instruction, as well.

STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN
PART 1 – WARM UP & WORDS
Step 1 (2 min)
Ask students if they like Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. Tell them that the two singers have recently collaborated together on a song titled RAIN ON ME and that you are going to work with it.
Step 2 (3 min)
On the whiteboard, write the words MISERY – SIN – THUNDER. Tell your students that these words are from the song.
Step 3 (2 min)
Ask students to use their annotation tools to make a Y in front of the words they know and an N on the words they don’t know
Step 4 (5 min)
Based on the words they checked yes or no, have students volunteer to verbally explain their meaning (do not say if the meaning is right or not yet)
Step 5 (10 – 15 min)
Divide students into pairs or small groups. Share the link to the Word Definition Doc in which the groups have their specific work space under the words.
In BREAKOUT ROOMS,the pairs/groups search the Internet and prepare a way to explain the 3 words: they can use words to explain, they can give examples, they can draw, they can share pictures They can explain the words in any way they want..
The pairs/groups must write their definitions and examples or share their pictures under the respective word in their workspace. Give them 10 – 15 minutes for that.
Step 6 (5 min)
Back to the main room, have students underline the mistakes they see in the explanations of the other groups. Then go over them by asking students to read the definitions and say if they agree with the underlining, and correct the mistakes if necessary..
PART 2 – INTERVIEW with LADY GAGA
Step 7 (5 min)
Tell your students they are going to watch a short clip from an interview in which LADY GAGA talks about working with ARIANA GRANDE.
Play the video (46 s) and tell them to pay attention to answer the question: what did Lady Gaga do while Ariana was singing in the studio?
Answer: she danced in front of her
Step 8 (5min)
Share the link to the interactive interview worksheet. Play the video again. Students fill the gaps. Play the video more times if necessary.
OBS. tell students to click in the FINISH button when they’re done and then in CHECK MY ANSWERS to see their results.
Exercise on the interactive worksheet:
Watch a clip from an interview with LADY GAGA and fill the blanks in the script. LADY GAGA (talking about Ariana Grande): I was sitting at the console and ____________-1- to her, and I remember I said to her, 'OK, now everything that you care about while you sing, I want you to ____________-2- it and just, and just sing. And by, and by the way, while you're doing that, I'm gonna dance in ________-3- of you. ‘Cause we had this huge big window, I was like “I’m gonna dance in front you And she was like, 'Oh my God. Oh my God, I can't, I can't. I don't ___________-4-. Oh my God. OK, OK.' And then I did it and she _____________-5-, and she started to do things with her voice that was, that was _____________-6-. PART 3 – CROSSWORDS + LYRICS WORKSHEET
Step 9 (10 min)
Share the link for the interactive crosswords + lyrics worksheet. Students read the hints and solve the crosswords. You can have a competition to see who finishes first.
Step 10 (10 min)
Students listen to the song and fill the blanks with the words they found in the crosswords exercise.
OBS. tell students to click in the FINISH button when they’re done and then in CHECK MY ANSWERS to see their results.

Step 11 (5 min)
Play the music video and students comment on it to say if they liked it or not and why to close the activity
