This song-based STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN features the lyrics for Traveler by Luca Aprile. Students TALK about a quote from the song, ANSWER questions about traveling (Cambridge C1 Advanced Speaking Paper part 1), LISTEN to a song and answer questions about it, DISCUSS questions about the song in pairs, WORK with the lyrics of the song (Cambridge C1 Advanced Use of English part 2), WATCH the official lyric video to check their answers and DISCUSS questions in group about the song.

STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN

Step 1 (5 – 7 min)

INTRO quote from the song (slide 1) genially presentation LINK

Step 2 (5 – 7 min)

Questions (Speaking Paper part 1 Cambridge Advanced C1). Ask several students:

Travel

  • Who do you prefer to travel with? .. (Why?)
  • Do you think it is a good idea to travel with friends, or alone? How about with your family?
  • Are you afraid of going abroad alone?
  • Are you more fond of long or short distance travel?
  • Could you live in another country for the rest of your life? Explain

Step 3 (5 min)

First listening task. (slide 2). Have students listen to the song and note down the cities and/ or countries mentioned.

Answers: Tokyo, LA, Mexico and Paris

After checking the answers ask: How did the song make you feel?

Step 4 (5 min)

Second Listening task. (slide 3)

Have students listen to the song again and think of these questions to talk to a partner.

  • 1- what is the song about?
  • 2 What is the singer feeling?
  • 3 Who is the singer singing to?
  • 4 What is the message he’s trying to convey?
  • 5 Why does he sing the phrase “You know that I love you when I let you go”?

Step 5 (10 – 15 min)

Have students discuss the questions with a partner (breakout rooms, 7 – 10 min).

When the time’s up have students share their ideas. Have a mini discussion.

Step 6 (15- 20 min)

Work with the lyrics. Use of English part 2. You can play the lyric video in slide 4 for them to check if you want. 🙂

Step 7 (10 min)

(slide 5) Class discussion about the lyrics (you can also have students discuss this in small groups (breakout rooms).
